Dig my Garden

Before.
Sam needed something to cut the grass on this small patch of land. So the guy at Home Depot sold her a hedge trimmer. Sigh. Before the hedge trimmer, she used this. I wish I were kidding, lol.
Phase 1. I turned over the dirt in one of the strips. This is after we mowed the grass with the hedge trimmer.
The enemy. They wake us up at 6 AM every day. Great, they are spawning. Phase 2. The second part of dirt turned, and cheap rubber implanted
I have purchased the plants: 5 varieties of tomatoes, and 5 varieties of peppers. The herbs will come along soon enough. Dammann's was already running out, and I needed to pick my peppers. Naturally, the soil was a little clay and rock filled. I needed to add some organic material. I also staked them until I plant them within the week. Bamboo skewers worked well.
About a month later, I have finally planted. I found some wildflowers in a box at Walmart. I hope these looks good. The herbs will go here. Here is the tomato and pepper portion.
The dumbest invention ever. Romas, Early Girls, Grape, Sweet Million, in the back we have jalapeno and tomatillo Peppers on the left, tomatoes on the right.
California Wonders, garden salsa, fat n sassy round out the pepper portion. We also have some Big Boy tomatoes This is a grape variety. IT has some fruit already.
These are the Early Girls I put the Celebrity tomato in the dumb contraption. The herbs have been planted!
The Wildflowers are growing in. Finally some flowers on the topsy turvy. Overall, no difference than if planted in the ground.
A few grape tomatoes have appeared. and a Jalapeño!
And a few more on the way. The onions are starting to perk up. About a week later... I laid some mulch so I don't have to pull that many weeds.
The tomatoes BLEW UP this week. The topsy turvy was a miserable failure. I pushed the plant deeper, but so far, it's over watered, and the root growth is pathetic.
The onions are getting there. Ironically, the two early girl plants are the slowest to grow and produce so far.
The sweet million, left, and the grape, right, are the biggest plants so far. And the better boys are starting to produce.
The peppers are blowing up as well. See those little flowers forming? Bell peppers are on the way?
Here are the jalapenos The tomatillo plant is the biggest suprise so far. Less than a month ago, it was a tiny plant with one leaf. It is now a hulking plant with three stems, and blossoming flowers. Here are a couple shots of the garden salsa peppers.
here is a vine of grape tomatoes.
Despite being weak, it is still producing.
The fruits of my labor.
One roma (or two) that very very near and dear to my heart. The darn tomatillo squirrel returned, and buried an acorn! He laughed while he did it!
here is the burial site next to the parsley
There's another big squirrel digging it up to look at it.
This week's bounty A giant zucchini from my dad's garden and a bonus pepper from mine, with a pan of brownies on the side for size reference
PJ says hello.
I did some trimming. I took out half the tomatillo plant, and two tomato plants.
I still have buds for tomatoes and peppers. The 9-11 harvest.
Updated pics from today.
The rosemary grew up fast the thyme and oregano exploded The Basil is dead. PJ loves to eat the parsley
There are still some big peppers growing! Hopefully the bell peppers and tomatoes will grow right in the fall weather
A couple bell peppers ready to eat
Another Cherry tomato harvest is in! Freakin geese are back! Ugh Some Chris Spangle photography, Flowers grown by me, shot by me
